Dakar 2013. Day 5. The border.

Thursday, 10 January 2013 01:03

The Dakar crossed the Chile border and came closer by two hours. Also the scenery changed. From now on the competitors will meet less dunes but more dust and more… complicated navigation.

Stéphane Peterhansel (#302) as he planned focused on his position and the tactics paid off. Altough he got some help from Nasser Al-Attiyah (#300) whose navigational mistake cost the Qatari 6 minutes.

Guerlain Chicherit was hard to finish because of the power steering fault and it will be difficult for him to start in the morning.

The first at the finish line was Nani Roma (#305) who now almost reached Leonid Novitskiy (#307) lying on 4th place in overall. They are separated with 8 seconds in all.

Boris Gadasin and Alexey Kuzmich (#348) stay 9th in overall while Vladimir Vasilyev and Vitaliy Yevtyekhov lost two lines. Carlos Sainz was 5th at the special today.

Photo report from G-Force Motorsport team service in the evening:

Unfortunately, crew #406 Andrey Cherednikov/Albert Horn were withdrawn from the rally, the same for Artem Varentsov (#459) and Roman Briskindov (#436).
